What is AR?
Augmented reality (AR ) leverages the user’s environment in real time and uses digital assets like a sticker on top of the world, think Pokemon Go and Snap Chat.
What is VR?
Virtual reality (VR) creates a digital environment with software and displays it in a head mounted display (HMD) to immerse a user a virtual world. The spectrum of devices ranges from mobile enabled (Cardboard, Gear, Bridge, etc) to PC based (Microsoft MR, Vive, Rift, etc) and more recently Standalone (Oculus Go, Lenovo Mirage, Pico, etc).
What is MR?
Mixed reality (MR) is a powerhouse combination of the physical and digital objects in the users environment. One option is to have the physical environment visible with an outward facing camera. In a another version the physical environment is connected to and overlaid with a virtual reality usually requiring a green screen.
What is XR?
In this case any content using VR, AR, or MR alone or in combination will qualify as ‘XR’. Also known as cross or extended reality.
